Delightful Triviality
20th Century Fox Cinema Archives presents 1944's "In the Meantime, Darling" a slight but fun, rather murky transfer, of the film Otto Preminger directed after "Margin for Error" and before "Laura." This wartime concoction went through numerous script changes and titles as it was also known as "What's Next?" around the lots. Jeanne Crain is the star and this was her first time for Preminger of three later appearing in the wonderful "Centennial Summer" and later "The Fan." Also starring Frank Lattimore, Stanley Prager, Gale Robbins, Jane Randolph, Mary Nash, Doris Merrick and Eugene Pallette. Pallette's role was shortened considerable after he was fired and Preminger had his remaining scenes re-written from the script after he showed he was for Hitler and refused to sit next to a black actor (Clarence Muse) playing the hotel's handyman siting the n-word. OK Movie
I like Jeanne Crain, and this movie is OK. It is a good reminder of the sacrifices made by our military personel and their families.
